July Rally 2016

A new site for us this weekend, at Lower Tye Farm, Hayling Isalnd.

Four vans enjoyed a Hot and sunny Weekend, even warm enough for us to have our Saturday BBQ outside!

On the Sunday our Rally became the centre of a car park for the local fete, this kept us entertained for a few hours, I am sure I could have sold some of the Bacon Rolls that I was cooking for our visitors!

No photos of the site this time, but here are a few from West Hayling Nature Reserve.

June Rally Gorse Farm Blissford 2016

Good to see six units at Blissford this year.

As we could only make two nights out of the weekend rally, our time was restricted, but other members took in the sights of Bournemouth and Salisbury.

After being greeted with a cloudburst on Friday afternoon, it soon cleared up and the weekend was generally fine.  Although those staying on for Monday probably got a good soaking!

Saturday evening was BBQ time, and on Sunday we had afternoon tea, instead of our usual coffee morning. Mo and Ian provided us with a small banquet, this was to celebrate the Queens birthday and also Fathers day. Ron provided the sparkling wine for the toast.  A light hearted quiz on the Queen was given by Mo, this showed up some divided loyalties among our members!

Below are photos of the rally field and Saturday Evening.

Spring Bank Holiday Rally at Folly Farm, Beckley 2016

This rally saw us return to Folly Farm after a 14 year absense. The Rally field was nicely cut , and also dry!

I arrived just in time to see the rest of the group depart for their evening meal down the pub, which left me to look after the site and enjoy the wonderful views. Since our last visit the Red Kite population has grown considerably, and they gave us some fine flying demonstrations.

On Saturday seven of us (plus two dogs) were taken on a walk guided by Sid. Thirty minutes into the walk it was decided that we should stop at the pub! The time was 11.00am. Note to self, must go on more walks with Sid!! The walk then continued along the Thames path before returning to another pub! See photos below of the walk.Morning refreshmentThames Path   Thames path 2Pinkhill LockLunch stop

In the Evening we had our usual BBQ, and used our brand new canopy for the first time, this was a great success. You can click on the link below to see how we got on putting it up for the first time.

Sunday was another fine day after a chilly start, and we all enjoyed a cream tea supplied by Eve & Lynda followed shortly after by  another BBQ!

Below are some pictures taken in and around the site.IMG_2348 IMG_2288 IMG_2252 IMG_2229

Monday was time for me to return home, but not before I visited the local RSPB nature reserve at Otmoor. This is well worth a visit for its many species of birds.

May Day Rally_Uckfield 2016

Unfortunately our previous rally at Birdham had to be cancelled due to a water logged site. Thankfully at Uckfield there was space to fit all our units onto the hardstanding. The weekend was a little chilly, which left me as the sole person cooking outside on two evenings of the weekend. I have included several photos of the rally, including some bluebells adjacent to the site. (Click on photos for larger view)

Some Blue skies here!

Easter Rally 2016

Well the blog is up and running again, I will try to keep it up to date.

Our Easter rally was at the Golden Swan, Wilcot, Nr Pewsey.

The weather wasn’t very kind to us for this rally, and it left the rally field unusable. We had to share the Pub’s camping field. This was still pretty slippery!

The landlord of the Pub was very obliging and provided us with a warm room, where we  all sat together for Friday evening’s supper, thanks to the attendance our new members we had 34 people sat down for supper. We also took advantage of this room on the Saturday evening, and were entertained with a game of Bingo, courtesy of Lynda. A raffle was also held to help with the club funds, thanks go to Maureen for making sure everyone received a prize!

On Sunday we also had our coffee morning under cover, and an Easter egg hunt was organized for the younger members of the group. Due to the forecast of strong winds and rain, most people decided to finish there rally on the Sunday.

Appledram Cider House – 1st May/6th May 2014

The Rally got of to a damp and soggy start, but the weather improved as weekend went on. Seven units attended the rally. Some members chose to try out the local restaurants and pubs which were within walking distance. The … Continue reading

Merley Court Oct 2013

Back to Merley Court for our end of season rally.

A good week-end to visit wimborne market, eat, drink and be merry. Our usual skittles evening was replaced by a beetle drive, much kinder to the hips and backs!

Sadly I have no photos of the week-end, if anyone wants to E-Mail me some. I will add them to this post.

Birdham Rally – 13th/15th September

A return to this site with generally fine , but chilly weather. Perfect for a walk at Bracklesham.

Chris and I both found the need for caravan spares over the week-end, and the local Motor Home specialist proved very helpful in sorting out our problems.

Our rally officers Lyn & Dave were responsible for organising a wonderful cooked breakfast for everyone on Sunday morning. See pics below.

A fine week-end saw 12 units on site , plus a return visit by Mark and Karen, showing us how proper camping is done!

A nice warm evening on Friday night found a record number of people eating out in the local pub, thanks to Chris and Lynda for arranging the booking.

On Saturday evening we all enjoyed the disco in the clubhouse, I think a few knee’s and hip’s were tested out during the course of the evening.

The fine weather allowed us to BBQ and eat outside, on Sunday and Monday.

On Bank Holiday Monday, quite a few of us visited the Fete at Wisborough Green. The sunshine certainly attracted many people.

Ross on Wye Holiday Rally 2013

The Holiday Rally this year at Ross on Wye was a new venue for us. Eleven units attended at various times from 25th July to 5th August. The rally field is situated about 1 mile from the main road, 4 miles from Ross on Wye and 8 miles from Hereford. Within a short distance there are roads leading to Abergavenny, Hay on Wye and Monmouth, so a good choice of destinations to visit. Everyone I spoke to on the rally enjoyed the fine views and peace and quiet.

On a very sunny 1st of August, long-time members Ron & Peggy celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary  in style on the rally field.     Nibbles,  champagne and cake were enjoyed by all the members attending the rally,  joined by site owners Lynda & Geoff.   Later in the week Ron & Peggy were thrilled to receive an Anniversary card arrived from the Queen!

There were several pubs within a few miles of the site, but the Red Lion got the thumbs up from the members.   I did not realise you could get Whale and Chips!

As rally officer I tried not to organize people too much, but we did have a trip to the local cider farm for a tour and a tasting. This proved very popular as the owner was very helpful in answering our many questions, and tutoring us on cider blending and tasting! When we had finished our tasting we had to force ourselves to have a cream tea in the adjacent tea rooms.

Again joined by Lynda & Geoff, we had our coffee morning in Ron & Peggy’s awning on the last Sunday, and lo and behold another anniversary cake appeared ( thanks to Ron & Peggys Son). Picture below.       Despite a few showery days, every one agreed it was a good rally and would like to return to the site.   We all thanked Lynda & Geoff for their help and friendliness, which had made the Rally Officers job very easy.

I was hoping not to mention the weather in this post, but according to our trusty site owner we had 22mm of rain in about half an hour one evening, and by the morning this had risen to 30mm.
