A Touch of Class cabaret

Dancing to the music of soul singer Ray G Hemmings and his band was the Saturday evening entertainment for members at the Merley Court rally.

Making their annual Saturday evening visit to the Cobham Sports and Social Club for a meal and evening of skittles members were offered free £10 tickets for a cabaret instead. The manager said they were a little thin on the ground for the show and he wondered if we would be kind enough to “add atmosphere” eat our meal in the hall and then enjoy the show.

WCCC members are good at adding atmosphere, they do it wherever they go and the majority vote was for the cabaret rather then skittles – especially as it was all for free and we didn’t have to pay for the skittles.

The show was billed as A Touch of Class with comedienne and vocalist, Jennie Robin, acting as compere. Members enjoyed her jokes (those that understood them) and welcomed Ray G Hemmings billed as a lead singer with the Drifters. He was good enough to get most on the floor dancing.

It made for a grand finale to a season of rallies and Merley Court weather was exceptionally good and very warm ans sunny with members sitting out in the sun on Saturday afternoon rather than going anywhere.
