Head Chef! |
Cooked Sunday brunch for 75p instead of a cup of coffee and a biscuit. Beat that!
Rally officers Chris and Linda came up with the idea of a brunch instead of the usual coffee morning. Ably assisted by under-chefs Dave and Lyn, three gas barbecues, the Chairman stirring a pot of baked beans on his cob and Linda cooking in her caravan, the eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, black pudding and beans were all ready at the same time, accompanied by tea and coffee. The 17 members breakfasted in the protection of the rally officers awning plus a gazebo alongside and another acting as the cook house. Fantastic! The same set up had proved ideal the previous evening for our traditional barbecue. In spite of copious rain forecast for the weekend it obligingly fell mainly in the night.
It’s an ill wind that blows some good, as was the case of the new site at Birdham, found out of necessity at the last moment when the autocratic National Parks blocked our previous choice, has proved a winner; flat, drained, well mown, fenced turf set well-back from the road. The high hedge and trees were a useful wind break from the strong winds that blew.
Below is a poem submitted by Trish for your entertainment.
Our Brunch
There were eggs in a row
That set us all aglow
And black pudding that tasted divine
Tomatoes so sweet
It was all such a treat
While the beans – they just bide their time.
Let us wax lyrical
About sausage and bacon
The taste was the best of all things
Add beautiful mushrooms, Lovely company
Then there’s a meal fit for kings.
As we munched and we crunched
And sat sipping our tea
With pinkies akimbo, Just so
With our toast and our marmalade and all of the rest
Life gets better
But when we don’t know.
So however you came to arrange for this meal
Two drunks got together, I hear
We salute all involved
And say thanks to you all
Especially the wine and the beer!
