Pitton Rally July 2013

After a long wait, we finally had a glorious weekend of good weather at Pittton. Six units enjoyed the warmth and outdoor dining. On Saturday evening the Pitton Carnival firework display could be seen from our Rally field.

The next rally is at Ross on Wye. Just to remind you there are no electrics (apart from the rally officer), but there will be battery charging facilities available.

P.S.   If I can find the camera, I will add some photos to this Post.

Merley Court Oct 2012

Another fine week-end at Merley Court, if my arithmetic is right we had 16 vans in attendance, although Dave,Trish and Steve had to return home unexpectedly. Due to the large attendance the skittle evening was a busy affair, thanks go to all who helped out on the evening.
The coffee morning was used to sort out a few of our future events, this included a new Holiday Rally venue for next yeat at Ross on Wye. The local council still has to grant us permission for this rally, but we should know fairly soon.
Signing out for this year, but hope to see you all again on the rally field’s next year.

Henfield + Frogham 2012

Henfield was a new site for our Holiday Rally this year.
Twelve vans attended over the period of the Rally.
Unfortunately your Chairman could only attend on the last weekend of the rally, so I can’t report on what you all got up to. Our weekend was busy visiting the local National Trust properties, I was particularly impressed with the grounds at Wakehurst Place.
On the Saturday evening the BBQ field was empty apart from one brave  (or stupid) soul. Well someone’s got to do it!
The site owner was impressed on how well we all behaved! We must all be growing up! Apparently we would be welcome back anytime.
Thanks to Sid & Eve for being Rally officers for both Holiday Rally’s this year.

Frogham. Eight caravans enjoyed a fine weekend in the New Forest. Most people made use of the adjacent pub at some time over the weekend. Thanks go to Steve & Chris for arranging gazeobos for our Saturday BBQ. Already looking forward to this site being booked again.

Loxwood 2012

Nine cararvans enjoyed this rally at Loxwood. Thanks to Ron & Peggy we were able to use the facilities of the Bar! and shower room on the Friday and Saturday night. After a very wet spell of weather the rally field was still clean and and fine to drive on, although the entrance to the field was muddy, probably due to a large caravan rally the previous week-end. Thanks to Robbie for assisting and offering to help members off the rally field with his trusty Land Rover.
Looking forward to a fine rally at Henfield in August.

Wareham 2012

This year’s trip to the Purbecks, was an added bonus thanks to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The weather wasn’t great, but thanks to Sid & Eve we celebrated the Jubilee in style,
with a fine selection of cakes and tea.( As pictured below)
Again thanks to Sid & Eve for squeezing us all in for the BBQ

And finally to brighten up this post, our newest member Billy!

Parley Glade – Easter 2012

No Photos of Caravans or Planes!
But I caught this Heron on the River Stour adjacent to our site.

This years rally at Parley Glade was well attended with 10 units on site, including new members Derek & Viv. The field was perfect, if only my grass was that good at home!
On Friday evening most members visited The Curlew to taste the Ale and enjoy a supper.
Saturday evening was just a little cool, so club members took advantage of the Hut that was available, for the evening get together.
Due to a bad weather forecast for the coffee moring on Monday, it was decided to have Sunday afternoon Tea, complete with Chocolate Easter Cake, thanks to Joyce.
Looking forward to the warmer BBQ weather.

Indian Summer ideal

Ron and Sue were the winners at the skittles at Cobham Sports and Social Club. It was an exciting three-way tie for first place in both the men and ladies skittles 28 skittlers lined up to battle it out for the first place.
Eve, Lyn and Sue were the tied first for the ladies and Ron, Pete L-M, and Dave C for the men. All enjoyed the fine meal and cheap drinks at the busy club.
The weekend weather was lovely for the 12 caravans attending and pitched in our favourite place and with one exception all on hard standing.

Coffee morning? Nah, brunch morning

Minions
Head Chef!

Cooked Sunday brunch for 75p instead of a cup of coffee and a biscuit. Beat that!
Rally officers Chris and Linda came up with the idea of a brunch instead of the usual coffee morning. Ably assisted by under-chefs Dave and Lyn, three gas barbecues, the Chairman stirring a pot of baked beans on his cob and Linda cooking in her caravan, the eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, black pudding and beans were all ready at the same time, accompanied by tea and coffee. The 17 members breakfasted in the protection of the rally officers awning plus a gazebo alongside and another acting as the cook house. Fantastic! The same set up had proved ideal the previous evening for our traditional barbecue. In spite of copious rain forecast for the weekend it obligingly fell mainly in the night.
It’s an ill wind that blows some good, as was the case of the new site at Birdham, found out of necessity at the last moment when the autocratic National Parks blocked our previous choice, has proved a winner; flat, drained, well mown, fenced turf set well-back from the road. The high hedge and trees were a useful wind break from the strong winds that blew.

Below is  a poem submitted by Trish for your entertainment.

It was Our Brunch

There were eggs in a row
That set us all aglow
And black pudding that tasted divine
Tomatoes so sweet
It was all such a treat
While the beans they just bide their time.
Let us wax lyrical
About sausage and bacon
The taste was the best of all things
Add beautiful mushrooms, Lovely company
Then there’s a meal fit for kings.
As we munched and we crunched
And sat sipping our tea
With pinkies akimbo, Just so
With our toast and our marmalade and all of the rest
Life gets better
But when we don’t know.
So however you came to arrange for this meal
Two drunks got together, I hear
We salute all involved
And say thanks to you all
Especially the wine and the beer!

The green sward at White House Farm

The huge well mown rally field at White House Farm, Uckfield was so firm that all eight members elected to pitch on it. This was in spite of the hard standing being extended since our last visit as well as the installation of six power hook-ups and night light bollards. Where else can you get all that for £7.50 a night.

The ground remained firm inspite of 12 hours of rain Thursday night through to Friday morning. Thereafter, but for an odd shower, the holiday weekend improved, so much so that members could enjoy a barbecue together on Saturday evening in a clearing at the border of the wood which was out of the wind but lit by the setting sun. Sunday evening members squeezed into Dave and Lyn’s large awing for a jolly repast.

Marquee luxury

The recent holiday rally had the exclusive use of a 30 ft marquee for members. This was left from the previous rally and would be used for the following one, meanwhile we were free to use it.
It was useful for the large number of members attending the rally as, while we had mostly lovely warm and sunny days, the evenings were often chilly with some strong winds.  It was especially useful for the American supper organised by hard working rally officers Sid and Eve.
There were the usual local events such as the Swanage carnival, the fireworks and a display by the Red Arrows.
An unusual day out for one couple was to catch the pleasure boat from Wareham to Poole and then when it came to coming home catch the bus back to Wareham.
