Spring Bank Holiday

“We are the stoics.” That is what the BBC called those that ventured forth on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend. Ten WCCC vans went to Ecclesden Farm, Angmering to face, according to the Met Office, severe weather, Force 7 gales and very heavy rain.
It was the first visit to this ideal site located by past Chairman Cyril and Secretary Lyn. Easy to get to from the A27 and tucked down behind the downs. A walk up the farm lane from the site took one to the National Trust’s Highdown Hill, with views over the Channel.
Saturday dawned cloudy and cold, but it warmed up enough with a peep of the sun to get the barbecues going in the evening and sit down for our usual social.
Thanks to Derek and Pam for being rally officers and for the use of their awning – standing room only – for tea and coffee and an exceedingly fine fruit cake.
Thanks also for Mark for towing the Secretary’s van off the field. If he hadn’t this wouldn’t have been written as I would still be there!
