Merley Court

It usually rains at Merley Court. It didn’t this year!
It was the last outing of the year and sixteeen vans with 37 ralliers were present, including Leonard and Janice, who came along to see what the WCCC is all about.
With all those people to organise for the Saturday evening skittles at Cobham Social Club, it made for a busy weekend for rally officers Pierre and Tina and Chris and Lynda.
The winners of the skittles were Tricia for the ladies and Dave Sales for the men. Mon and Stevie collected the lowest score prizes – usually the best ones!

The last of the Summer sun

Breakfast at East Ashling

Yes, it was warm enough to have breakfast outside at the East Ashling Nurseries rally field. This was a first time for a WCCC rally and somewhere the club will deginitely return to. The field was level and dry and it took under an hour to get there from Waltham Chase, which makes it ideal for a weekend rally.

There was a good turn-out of 11 vans and the forthcoming retirement from work of a past chairman was a good excuse for some bubbly at the Saturday evening barbecue.

The weather was sunny and warm and the cathedral city of Chichester was close by, while the village of East Ashling, with a hostelerie, was but a short walk away across one field. The downs were close by to aford the walkers further scope for good hike.

Pitton August Bank Holiday

England was sublimely beautiful viewed from the Pitton valley field over the August Bank Holiday. The sun shone, the days were hot and the evenings were balmy for the 25 present who were joined for the barbecue evening by two Past Chairmen and their respective lady’s.

The Chairman celebrated his half century, provided the wine for the barbecue evening, and also kept the children amused by making them a gigantic homemade bubble machine.

Lightfoot Farm, Hordle

It may have been Friday 13 July, but it didn’t rain during the day for the whole weekend – at least not until late Sunday. The well-mown grass at the rally field was dry and well drained and the seven vans present were soon pitched.
Some members enjoyed dinner out at the Royal Oak, Downton on Friday evening, and as can be seen there was some blue sky for the rally on Saturday evening.
It even remained dry for the Sunday coffee morning when members could see some photos taken by those that had travelled to France.

Lightfoot Farm

It may have been Friday 13 July, but it didn’t rain! And amazingly it didn’t rain during the day for the duration of the rally at Lightfoot Farm, Hordle. The close-mown lawn of the site remained dry for the seven members’ vans present for the rally.

Some of the members enjoyed a meal out on Friday evening at the Royal Oak, Downton.

Saturday evening was barbecue evening, and as you can see, there was some blue sky. Even for the coffee morning coffee on Sunday it remained dry!

The Cinderellas’ June Rally

And then there were five vans. With some lucky members heading south for France, only five vans made it to Wellington Country Park. Barry and Brenda were there to greet the Friday arrivals to the rally field that got a bad press the last time the WCCC used it.

This time the ground was firm and the water clear and inspite of showers forecast they were few and far between. This allowed members to barbecue and sit out together.
After our dinner our Chairman led some of us on a safari though the park in the gathering dusk to observe the wild deer who also observed the WCCC members. arriving back at the rally field in the gloaming they watched a barn owl ghost silently across the field behind the rally field.
It was so warm and sunny for the coffee morning on the Sunday it went on until lunch time.

Spring Bank Holiday

“We are the stoics.” That is what the BBC called those that ventured forth on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend. Ten WCCC vans went to Ecclesden Farm, Angmering to face, according to the Met Office, severe weather, Force 7 gales and very heavy rain.
It was the first visit to this ideal site located by past Chairman Cyril and Secretary Lyn. Easy to get to from the A27 and tucked down behind the downs. A walk up the farm lane from the site took one to the National Trust’s Highdown Hill, with views over the Channel.
Saturday dawned cloudy and cold, but it warmed up enough with a peep of the sun to get the barbecues going in the evening and sit down for our usual social.
Thanks to Derek and Pam for being rally officers and for the use of their awning – standing room only – for tea and coffee and an exceedingly fine fruit cake.
Thanks also for Mark for towing the Secretary’s van off the field. If he hadn’t this wouldn’t have been written as I would still be there!

May Day Holiday Weekend

One swallow does not a summer make. But summer wasn’t far off with the first hesitant call of the cuckoo in the woods behind the rally field at White House Farm, Uckfield.

Nine vans with 20 members were present at the May Day Holiday Weekend and rally officers Sid and Eve had ordered the sunshine for Friday and Saturday, but it was a bit cloudy Sunday, followed by a very wet and windy night – and it wasn’t much better Bank Holiday Monday.

However the massive rally field was dry and many lovely places to visit were nearby ensuring good days out for all.
